The Very Best Makeup Products for Your Skin

Makeup is an art form, a representation of individuality and freedom of expression. It is used to correct flaws and to enhance the natural beauty of a person which helps an individual in presenting themselves in society with confidence.

It's easy to get overwhelmed when there are so many different cosmetic products and formulations to select from, as well as the ongoing changes in design and trends. We can attain the look we want and get the most out of our makeup as long as we understand the basics and know what each product can genuinely do for us.

Types of Makeup

Primer Foundation Concealer

Powder Blush Contour

Bronzer Highlighter

Foundation

A liquid, cream, or powder makeup is applied to the face to create an even base, uniform color to the complexion, cover flaws, and sometimes to change the natural skin tone.

Nailing your base is the most important thing in makeup. Too much foundation can make your skin look cakey, and a little could make you look unpolished. This is why picking the perfect type of foundation is essential considering your skin needs and the look you are going for.

Types of Foundation

Liquid Foundation: Best to use if there is a large patch on the skin that you’re looking to even out. It usually has a medium-to-full coverage that can be built up depending on the look you are going for. Its formula can vary from matte and dewy.

Powder FoundationThis typically comes in a compact case, which is ideal for on-the-go touch-ups. Convenient and easy to apply. However, because of its drier formulation, it’s best to use on oily skin.

Cream FoundationThis formula works well with people that have dry skin that wants medium to full coverage. However, be careful if you’re using them in humid weather since they can crease easily.

Stick FoundationThis is best for people who are on the go. They don't make a mess, are portable, may be used as a concealer, and have buildable coverage. It's so small that it won't take up a lot of space in your makeup bag.

Tinted MoisturizerA moisturizing liquid-cream natural makeup product. It provides light coverage while hydrating the skin and leaving a glowing finish. If you are going for a natural makeup look this is the best for you.  It allows your skin to breathe and keeps your makeup look natural but enhanced compared to bare skin.

BB Cream: Also known as blemish balm or beauty balm, is a hybrid of skincare and makeup. It is formulated with skincare benefits that include hydration, anti-aging properties, and sun protection. This is great for people who love that no makeup, makeup look.

Types of Coverage

After choosing a foundation type, you must get familiar with the different coverage options.

  • Sheer Coverage: Ideal for someone who wants to improve their skin tone but is not looking for a product that will cover imperfections. Perfect for an everyday look.
  • Medium Coverage: This will conceal some of your imperfection while still looking like skin.
  • Full Coverage: This will hide all your imperfections, leaving you a flawless canvas.
  • Buildable Coverage: This means that the coverage can be layered depending on your desired finish. Great to use if there are areas of your skin that need more coverage than others.

The ultimate goal is to find a foundation that looks like our own skin, but better. However, there are tons of formulas and shades available in the market and each of them has a different range depending on the brand which makes it very challenging to find a foundation that will suit the skin. Here are some things to consider in choosing your foundation:

1. Determine your undertone: You can easily determine your undertone by looking at the veins on your wrist. If they’re blue, you have a cool undertone. If your veins are green, you’re warm or olive. And if you see both, you’re neutral. Some brands describe their shades by including the undertone on the shade name which makes it easier to determine the shade that suits your skin.

2. Take note of your existing foundation shades: With this, you can compare the color and description of the product you want to buy especially online. There are also some websites available that have a list of possible matches of shades of foundations from one brand to another which can make choosing easier.

3. Consider your Skin Type: Your skin type is an important factor when it comes to choosing foundation finishes. Dewy foundations work best with normal to dry skin, while matte foundations are more suitable for combination and oily skin.

How to apply foundation?

Applying foundation to get a natural and flawless finish requires time, patience, and practice. Once the primer is all set and dry, using a foundation brush, apply a thin layer of foundation on the center of the face blending it outward.

For blending, you can use either a damp makeup sponge or a buffing brush. Do a gentle dabbing motion and remember not to swipe the sponge or brush, as it will lift the foundation from the skin resulting in a patchy finish.

Here are some tools you can use in blending your foundation:

There are various ways to apply foundation but everyone has only one goal, and that is to achieve flawless skin and a smooth base for their makeup. If there are spots left that are not covered by foundation, do not over-layer as the next step will still help the base of the makeup to look spotless, and that is concealer.
