Achieving Flawless Base!

Posted by Edge

Makeup is a wonderful tool that can help us enhance and perfect our best features. In today's paced-driven life, many of us look to makeup as a quick way to enhance our features and feel better about ourselves. As I’m sure you know, good skin is not something you are born with. It takes years of diligent skincare and healthy lifestyle choices in order to be rewarded with the skin of your dreams.

Base makeup is the foundation of your look. It gives you an even, or near-even, skin tone so that your other makeup products will appear natural.

Having flawless base makeup is an important step in achieving a flawless makeup look. A flawless base is something you should aspire for because it requires a lot of work upfront, but can lead to great results in the long-term such as a more flawless makeup application and natural-looking makeup.

Face Primers

Face Primers are the secret to flawlessly applying foundation, concealer, and powder. They smooth and even out your skin's texture so that it looks flawless under makeup, which is why they're a must-have for anyone who wears makeup regularly.

While some people use primers only on special occasions or when they're going out at night, there are plenty of reasons to wear them during the day as well. Primers help keep your makeup from slipping off your face when you sweat or get oily, which means you'll have to reapply less frequently throughout the day. They also fill in pores and fine lines so that you don't have to worry about them showing through your foundation or powder.

There are different types of primers:

Mattifying primers are great for oily skin. They absorb excess oil in the pores and leave you with a matte base for your foundation.

Skin Perfecting Matte Primer creates the perfect velvety matte canvas for combination and oily skin types. It contains micro-spherical powders that smooth skin texture and blur the appearance of large pores while gently controlling oil shine without compromising skin hydration. Skin Perfecting Matte Primer also protects your skin from free-radical and blue light damage.
*How to use: Apply the lightweight formula under makeup to prime, over makeup to reduce oil-shine (with no powdery residue), or on bare skin for a velvety matte finish that looks natural and never dry.

Hydrating primers are great for dry or flaky skin. They moisturize the skin, helping the makeup last longer without drying out or cracking.

Gives the skin a silky smooth, long-lasting, flawless base. Since its release, the Foundation Primer has become one of the most popular products. With antioxidants, vitamins A and E, and Jojoba and Grape Seed oil, this weightless, anti-aging primer fills in fine lines and wrinkles and prevents collagen breakdown.

The Complexion Perfector is a unique hybrid product that simplifies your quest for a flawless face while delivering authentic skincare benefits. The silky, weightless formula transforms skin into the perfect canvas for makeup. Unlike a primer that begins the process of preparing skin for makeup, the Perfector finishes it.
*How to use: Before applying foundation, put 1-2 pumps onto the tips of your fingertips and tap the product into the skin, taking a moment to pat each section and hold. Never pull or rub and be extra careful around the delicate eye area. The Perfector is authentic skincare so it can be used at night as well.

Helps maintain skin’s youthful elasticity and minimize pores and fine lines while bringing out your natural radiance. Anti-aging firms the skin and prevents moisture loss. It smoothes, brightens, and nourishes the skin. It also Minimizes pores and visibly reduces the appearance of wrinkles.
*How to use: Apply evenly with fingertips for radiant results. Use on its own or as a primer before makeup.

Pore minimizers help reduce the appearance of large pores by filling them in with colorless pore-filling ingredients such as zinc oxide and titanium dioxide (which you might already find in sunscreen).

An ultra-firming primer that visibly reduces the look of wrinkles, fine lines, and pores, leaving skin perfectly prepped for make-up, or simply fresh-faced for the day.
*How to use: After cleansing, toning, and moisturizing, pump a small amount of the primer into your palms and apply it to the face. Follow with your make-up or wear it alone for a refined, fresh-faced look.

A multi-tasking, invisible primer and complexion perfector powered by skin-smoothing Alpha Lipoic Acid to blur and minimize the look of pores, redness, wrinkles, and fine lines; both instantly and over time. Use it alone on bare skin to blur imperfections and under makeup as a primer for a flawless look without caking or creasing.
*How to use: Begin by patting the No Makeup Instant Blur makeup applicator onto the balm and smoothing over the face, focusing on areas with oiliness, visible pores, discoloration, wrinkles, and lines. Can be used under makeup and alone.

A skin base primer that creates hydrating and illuminating skin by refining pores and wrinkles.
*How to use: Before makeup, apply a moderate amount to the face thinly. You can mix with the foundation or BB cream (21 ratio) for an even more flawless finish.

You should apply primer after your skincare but before foundation. Spread a thin layer over freshly cleansed skin using your fingers (or a brush) until it disappears into the skin without leaving any residue behind on the surface of the skin. Let sit for 30 seconds before applying foundation or concealer over top!

Color Corrector

Color Corrector is designed to help correct discoloration or redness in the skin and make it look more even-toned.

By using color correctors, you can reduce the appearance of veins or blemishes on your face, as well as make dark circles under your eyes less noticeable. It is used with other makeup products to even out skin tone, brighten up dark circles under the eyes and make you look more awake, or hide imperfections like acne scars or blemishes.

Unique NEUTRAL Skin Perfect Colour Corrector is a universal shade that balances all skin tones while smoothing your skin's appearance, delivering the perfect canvas to apply makeup. Balances and Smooths Skin, All Skin Tones.
*How to use: Use the Skin Perfect Colour Correctors to spot correct - they melt seamlessly into your skin and are easily covered by your foundation and concealer.

  • Yellow conceals redness.
  • Peach hides blue, purple, or grey.
  • Lilac covers yellow.
  • Beige conceals hyperpigmentation
*How to use: Use on redness, bruising, dark or light pigmentation. Also, use as an under-eye concealer.

Put your best face forward with our color-correcting camouflage shades in a creamy, easy-to-blend formula. Neutralize imperfections and balance the completion with shades uniquely targeted to compact redness, dark circles, hyperpigmentation, and dullness.
*How to use: Apply the Color Corrector with your fingers on clean skin, before the BB Cream and Foundation.

If you're new to makeup, color corrector can be a bit intimidating. But it's actually pretty easy to use and can really help you achieve the flawless base you're looking for. Just use a small amount of the color corrector on the area you want to neutralize, using a concealer brush or your fingers, and gently blend it into your skin.

Makeup Foundation

It helps to even out skin tone and hide blemishes. It has two main purposes: to provide a base for other makeup products to be applied over it and to help conceal imperfections.

It comes in a variety of forms: liquid, powder, cream, and stick. Each type has its own benefits and drawbacks.

Liquid foundations are the most versatile since they can be applied in multiple ways—with fingers or brushes—and are more likely to match your skin tone than other types of foundation.

A liquid foundation that restores the skin's natural moisturization abilities and perfectly enhances the skin.
*How to use: Apply Teint naturel after your treatment with fingers or with the Sothys foundation brush.

A liquid foundation that gives the skin a natural, soft look and subtly masks imperfections.
*How to use: Shake your T.LeClerc Matte Foundation before use. Apply this LeClerc foundation for a natural result with the following foundation brush.

Highlight: For illumination and brightening, highlight the middle of the forehead, brow bones, upper cheekbones, down the center of the nose and chin, and on the bow of the lip with a shade 1-2 levels lighter than the base color.

Here are some tools you can use to apply your foundation:

This duo-fiber, synthetic PRO stipple foundation brush is the fastest way to a skin perfect finish.

A natural-looking, flawless, skin-perfect finish.

Concealer

Its a product that you apply to your face to cover up any blemishes or dark circles under your eyes. It can be used to hide small imperfections, such as pimples and scars. Concealers also come in different textures and formulas.

There are three main types of concealer:

Liquid concealers are easy to apply, blend well into the skin, and provide a natural-looking finish. They're great for covering up spots, redness, or dark circles under the eyes.

Liquid Bright Concealer is a lightweight, corrective concealer pen that provides impeccable coverage while bringing light and brightness to the complexion.
*How to use: Apply directly to the face and blend with fingertips or a synthetic hairbrush.

The High Definition Lift Effect Concealet has a soft and creamy texture and is very comfortable and elastic, second-skin effect.
*How to use: Apply directly to the face and blend with fingertips or a synthetic brush.

A creamy, long-wear, crease-proof liquid concealer with weightless full coverage that brightens under-eyes, smooths skin, and conceals blemishes and redness.

Stick concealers are more portable than liquid versions as they come in a stick form which can easily be applied to your face with your fingers or a sponge. These tend to be thicker than liquid concealers so they'll cover more stubborn spots like acne scars or blemishes.

Weightless, versatile liquid concealer that diminishes imperfections and brightens the skin's appearance.
*How to use: Choose a shade that best matches skin tone and apply directly to imperfections and areas of discoloration. Blend edges of applied area with a sponge or Perfecting Concealer Brush to maintain full coverage. For more sheer coverage, use less product and blend the entire applied area until the desired look is achieved.

Choose one shade lighter than skin tone to brighten specific areas of the face and one shade darker to contour, blend thoroughly. Can be worn alone or applied after foundation. Set with Pure Press, Perfecting Powder, or Perfect and Correct Finishing Powder if desired.

Light pink shade concealer that hides imperfections with excellent coverage, suitable for all skin types, and also the driest.
*How to use: Tips and tricks from our make-up artist:
  • for a professional result, use with brush n°03
  • for easy and quick use, use the tip of the ring finger

Cream concealers are thicker than liquid or stick versions as they contain more pigments that provide intense coverage without looking cakey or dry on your skin. These tend to be better suited for people with oily skin as they help control shine throughout the day without being heavy on the skin surface like liquid formulas might do if you have dry patches underneath where the foundation sits.

The perfect cover-up. Beautifully conceals skin irregularities such as birthmarks, scars, and blemishes. Provides ultimate coverage with a natural look. Use with the Fixing Powder for a long-lasting hold. Babor Camouflage Cream conceals congenital or acquired skin imperfections such as pigment marks, visible veins, tattoos, and port-wine stains. The budge- and smudge-proof formula goes onto the skin smoothly and seamlessly, for a perfect finish. This full-coverage cream provides heavy coverage without feeling heavy or cakey on the skin.
*How to use: Cleanse the skin, apply a daytime moisturizer and allow it to absorb before gently blotting the skin with a paper towel.

An oil-free mineral concealer that effortlessly corrects and conceals any imperfection.
*How to use: Apply sparingly and layer as required for superior camouflage. Ideal for concealing color and texture imperfections or blemishes.

The perfect camouflage that reliably conceals skin imperfections and irregularities.
*How to use: Apply Teint Correcteur either to the whole or part of the face. Roll in with the fingers or dab on locally with a brush.

To apply concealer, use your finger or a brush to lightly pat it onto the area you want to cover. You may want to use a makeup sponge as well, as this will allow you to blend the concealer into your skin more evenly. After applying, start by blending out any harsh lines with a clean brush or sponge before letting it set with a setting spray.

Face Powders

Face powders are a type of makeup that can help you achieve a flawless base for your all-over makeup look.

It is often used to set your foundation or concealer so that it stays put all day and doesn't crease or fade. It's also great for setting your entire face so that the color of your makeup looks more natural and less like it was applied with an airbrush.

Face powders come in two basic forms: loose powder and pressed powder. Both work well with different skin types, so it's important to consider both options before making a purchase.

Loose powder, makes it ideal for oily or combination skin types because it doesn't make those areas look greasy when you wear it—but it also means that it can be difficult to get rid of excess residue if you don't use enough water when applying!

The loose mineral powder fixes your make-up and its pure mineral pigments magically give you skin as fresh and luxurious as the purest skin.
*How to use: For fixing and improving your make-up’s durability: Delicately use the fluffy powder puff to finely dust Silky Mineral Powder onto your face.
For more coverage: Use the Bellavance kabuki brush to work Silky Mineral Powder into the skin with lightly twisting, circular motions.

This loose mineral foundation formulation is beautifully pigmented and luminescent. It offers medium to full coverage with a dewy finish. Talc-free and non-comedogenic, this formula provides broad-spectrum UV protection for radiant and healthy skin.
*How to use: Apply with desired brush to achieve sheer to full coverage with a dewy finish by lightly buffing powder onto the skin. To open the product, remove the clear sticker and turn the inner tabs to the left until you hear a click and the sifter holes are visible. Then replace the cap and shake gently to release the product. Make sure to turn the tabs back to the right to close.

The airy mineral foundation provides luminous sheer-to-medium coverage that feels like silk.
*How to use: Remove the seal or puncture holes for controlled flow of the minerals. Replace the lid, turn it upside down, and tap. The minerals are now released into the sifter. Cleanse the face and moisturize. Lightly dip a brush into the minerals. Tap off any excess using the side of the jar. Using the lid, work the minerals into your brush until all powder is absorbed. Apply Jane Iredale Amazing Base Loose Mineral Powder SPF 20 in thin layers using downward strokes. Begin application where you want the most coverage, then lightly layer over the rest of the face. Don't forget your neck.

Pressed powder, is perfect for creating a matte finish and adding shimmer to your look. They work well on their own or as an additional layer on top of your foundation.

A multi-purpose face powder that can be used with a powder brush for a sheer finish, a puff for slightly heavier coverage, or with a damp sponge over bare skin as a heavier matte foundation.

A finely milled pressed powder foundation that provides a flawless and seamless, semi-matte finish with long-lasting coverage.
*How to use: Apply to the face with a circular motion using the Base or Dome Powder Brush. Begin with a small amount and layer as needed. Re-apply throughout the day as needed, after substantial sun exposure or exercise. Follow with Mineral Hydration Mist to set minerals for long-lasting wear.

A peach-shade pressed powder that provides a matte finish and visibly smooths the skin.
*How to use: To set make-up, give your whole face a dusting of powder with the PIN1 brush. For touch-ups during the day, apply powder to the T-zone (forehead, nose, chin) by tapping lightly with the puff to absorb excess sebum. Re-apply as often as needed.

Applying the powder to your entire face is unnecessary. Instead, press the brush into the skin under the eyes and then along a line from the forehead down the nose—as well as other areas prone to oiliness throughout the day.

Conclusion

A great base can make you look and feel more confident. Keep these makeup tips in mind to find the best one for you! It takes a good amount of work and learning to create your own base makeup routine and master it. However, once you do, you are rewarded with a look that is pleasing to the eye, lasts longer on the face, and best of all, gives you confidence in how you appear.
