Ah, pores—the skin mysteries that never cease to amaze us. From adolescence through adulthood, they seem to haunt us in just about every condition (from blackheads to clogged pores). Pores are the openings of epidermal glands. Do you ever wonder how you can take care of them? Have you also heard that there are pores that get clogged and need to be opened? It's a pretty common type of condition - one that could do a lot of damage to your skin lifespan if left untreated.

Before we can properly care for our pores, we have to understand what they are.

Pores are tiny holes in the skin that allow oxygen, water, and other important nutrients to penetrate. They allow sweat and oils to flow out of the body and keep bacteria from entering. Pores can be found all over your body, but they're most noticeable on the face and back of your hands.

They are a normal part of how we're created – but how can we go about caring for them? It's not quite as simple as you might think. This takes a lot of effort, consistency, and patience to achieve healthy beautiful skin.

First, you need to make sure you're using products that won't aggravate your skin.

This means avoiding anything that contains alcohol or fragrance. It also means using products that are suited for your skin type.

If you have oily skin, look for oil-free products.

Make sure you're double cleansing.

It’s an essential part of your skincare routine, and it's one of the best ways to keep your pores clear and healthy. After all, when you apply your makeup, you're basically putting a bunch of gunk on your face. This gunk can clog your pores, which makes them look bigger and darker than they actually are.

So what should you do? Well, first you need to remove all the makeup from your face with a makeup remover. Then, use a gentle cleanser to cleanse your skin and get rid of any leftover residue from the makeup remover.

The reason why double cleansing works so well is that most cleansers aren't strong enough to break down stubborn makeup like waterproof mascara or foundation. Therefore, if you only use one type of product (like just a cleanser), then it won't get rid of all the makeup that's been deposited onto your skin throughout the day.

This luxurious, cleansing facial oil effortlessly glides onto skin to melt away makeup—even long-wear and waterproof—and cleanse the skin of impurities, excess sebum (oil), and surface debris.
*How to use: Glide a generous amount onto dry skin. Massage the luxurious oil with wet fingertips and feel it melt into the skin as it lifts away makeup and impurities, transforming into a milky emulsion. Rinses off thoroughly with water to leave skin clean, soft, and youthful-looking. Use once or twice daily, or as often as needed.

An eye and lip make-up remover that gently removes all traces of makeup, including long-wearing makeup and waterproof formulations. Its superior translucent phase, composed of gentle oils, dissolves the most resistant makeup, whereas its bluish phase eliminates all residues and limits the oily sensation. It leaves the eyelids feeling fresh and rested.
*How to use: Shake the bottle before each use. Soak a cotton pad with the Dual-Phase Eye and Lip Make-Up Remover and gently wipe eyelashes, eyelids, and lips. Never rub.

A non-stinging formula that removes all traces of makeup as it preps skin for cleansing. A simply perfect, non-stinging formula. Includes Bioelement's unique MariBright Complex - a calming blend of marigold and eyebright natural extracts. It removes all traces of makeup - even water-resistant formulas - as it comforts and preps skin for cleansing.
*How to use: Apply with a damp cotton pad. Wipe downward on closed eyelids. Rinse off. May be used over the entire face to remove makeup before cleansing.

Don't squeeze them!

The best way to unclog pores is to wash your face gently with warm water and a mild cleanser. Afterward, use a toner with glycolic acid or salicylic acid to help further clear out any buildup.

  • Glycolic acid is an AHA that has the ability to hydrate skin and to 'teach' skin to retain its natural moisture by breaking down the bonds that hold dead skin cells together. Best for dry skin.
  • Salicylic acid is a BHA that has the ability to deep clean and unclogged the pores by exfoliating the skin and helping to shed dead skin cells. Salicylic acid can be drying, so make sure to moisturize your skin after you use it. Best for oily skin.

It brings about an intense, gentle epithelial renewal to reveal a glowing healthy epidermis. Regulates sebaceous secretions and erases skin imperfections. Cleanses and refines blocked pores. Makes pigmented spots, wrinkles, and fine lines less obvious. Makes skin look soft, supple, and healthy.
*How to use: In an 8-week cure, morning and evening, replace the Perfecting Toner of the beauty routine, in combination with the AHA Essential Renewal Serum.

An alcohol-free low stimulate balance toner that controls excessive sebum. As a low pH to efficiently exfoliate and reveal brighter, more even, and refined skin. This low-stimulating oil balance toner cares about excessive oil. It gently removes dead skin cells to make a smooth skin texture while its natural salicylic acid purifies the skin to maintain it clean and pure.
*How to use: After cleansing, apply a proper amount to the face and gently pat into the skin for best results..

Use an exfoliator once or twice a week to get rid of dead skin cells that might be blocking the pores.

This is especially important if you have oily skin, as this type of skin tends to produce more oil than dry skin types do—and this extra oil can cause acne breakouts by clogging up the pores!

A face cleanser with micro gel peeling that cleanses deeply the pores without feeling stripped. Desquacrem Forte digests fatty excretions, enzymatically emulsifying oily impurities, comedones (blackheads), and milia (hard waxy deposits) that accumulate deeper in the tissues in a pH-balanced formulation that deeply cleanses the skin without the skin feeling stripped, allowing more efficient penetration of serums and treatment creams.
*How to use: Spread a small amount of product on moist skin avoiding the eye contour area. Emulsify with circular movements. Leave on the skin to activate for 1 to 3 minutes then re-emulsify with dampened fingertips using lukewarm water, rinsing until the product is thoroughly eliminated from the skin. Dry the skin and follow with appropriate Sothys lotion, serum, and treatment cream. Frequency: Twice weekly. Rinse thoroughly with warm water. Use twice to three times a week. If irritation occurs discontinue use immediately.

An exfoliating cream that removes all traces of dead cells and impurities that accumulate on the surface of the skin. Regular use helps reduce the appearance of irregularities and opened pores while improving the aspect of the skin’s texture for a radiant and healthy complexion.
*How to use: Apply a layer of Nelly De Vuyst 3 Minute Gommage over the face, the neck, the eyelids, and the lips. Massage the skin with the fingertips to remove dead cells and impurities. Rinse with warm water, dry gently, and spray with the appropriate Nelly De Vuyst Toner. Follow with the Nelly De Vuyst skin care products for your skin type. Non-comedogenic and dermatology tested. For external use only. Avoid contact with the eyes.

Put on a mask.

A mask can help draw out impurities and excess oil from deep inside your pores, so it's another good way to treat blackheads and unclog your pores. This could be used 1 to 2 times a week on days that you do not exfoliate.

This soft, white clay mask shrinks pores, mattifies, and smooths the skin. This smooth, gentle white clay mask is formulated for all skin types, especially oily and combination skin. It helps to draw out dirt and impurities from the pores and absorb excess oil to reduce shine. The pores are perfectly cleansed and their size is visibly reduced, revealing a smoother and refined skin texture with a healthy, matte appearance.
*How to use: Use 1 to 2 times per week or as often as needed. Apply a generous layer onto a perfectly cleansed face and neck. Avoid the eye and lip areas. Leave on for 10 to 15 minutes. Gently rinse off with lukewarm water.

A face, neck, and neckline mask aimed to deeply exfoliate the skin, tighten facial pores, and refine skin texture. Glycolic acid (AHA), a key ingredient in this product, is stabilized to foster maximum action throughout the application. Suitable for normal to oily skin prone to blackheads and dilated pores. Not recommended for very sensitive skin.
*How to use: After having thoroughly cleansed your face with Pro-Derm’s Gentle Cleanser, apply an even layer of approximately 3 mm thick of cream. A mild tingling sensation can be felt when applying the cream. It is normal. It is a sign that your skin is responding to the AHA exfoliating properties. After 20 to 30 minutes, remove the mask with a warm facial cloth and rinse with clear water. This mask does not dry on the skin. May be repeated once a week.

Exfoliating Mask that gently dissolves facial impurities and unclogs pores. This gentle, exfoliating mask harnesses the natural power of cranberry enzymes and lactic acid to tenderly scrub away facial impurities and decongest blocked pores. As active ingredients exfoliate, protect and revitalize the skin, potent, oil-free moisturizers add a dewy softness to blemish-prone skin.
*How to use: Smooth a thin layer of enzymes over clean, dry skin, and leave on for 3 to 15 minutes (1 minute for sensitive skin). Can be used 1 to 4 times per week for oily, blemish-prone skin. Be Sun Smart. CosMedix always recommends the daily use of sunscreen to protect skin against sunburn and premature aging.

Don't forget to moisturize!

??Your skin is constantly fighting against environmental factors, and it needs moisture in order to stay healthy and hydrated. When your skin isn't getting enough moisture, it can start producing more oil than usual. This makes your pores look clogged, but they aren't actually clogged—they're just producing too much oil.

A combination of peptide complex, high and low molecular hyaluronic acid helps improve the vitality of skin cells and offers a long-lasting moisturizing effect. Skin will look clearer and younger with rose flower extract targeting pigmentation spots and cucumber extract minimizing large pores.
*How to use: Apply a thin layer after cleansing and peeling and gently pat on the skin. Wait 5 minutes before applying subsequent care products.

A balancing and hydrating cream for skin prone to acne and blackheads that renders a matt and even complexion. Hydrating cream for impure skin, or skin with blackheads, open pores, impurities, and with a dull complexion. It moisture while purifying impured skin. Renders a matt and even complexion.
*How to use: Cleanse the face with the appropriate Deep Cleansing Milk followed by the Stabilizing Lotion. Apply the Purifying Emulsion to the face and neck and massage gently to provide total penetration. Twice daily, morning and night. Can also be used in combination with the Anti-Impurities Bioarome (DS) or Purifying Bioarome (DEP). Mix in 5 to 10 drops of these Bioaromes with the Purifying Emulsion or use in layers starting with the Bioaromes.

You can use non-comedogenic products to not clog your pores.

Non-comedogenic products are those that do not contain ingredients that can cause acne. This includes oil, waxes, and other chemicals that can clog pores and cause pimples to form.

When you're choosing a cleanser or moisturizer and even makeup, look for products labeled "non-comedogenic" on the bottle or package.

Is it bad for your pore to do extractions?

It's no secret that pore extraction is a popular treatment. But is it bad for your skin to extract your pores?

The answer is: yes and no.

Yes, it's bad for your pores because it can cause inflammation, which can lead to scarring and discoloration of the skin. If you try to extract pimples on your own, you may push the contents of the blemish deeper into your skin—making it more noticeable than before. If you want to extract pores please see a Dermatologists who are trained in pore extraction and can remove blackheads and whiteheads for you more safely than doing it on your own.

Conclusion

Caring for your pores is not as easy as some might think. If you really want to have healthy, beautiful skin, you need to know how to take care of your pores and make them look their best by understanding what they are and how to take care of them.
